There are roughly three million more U.S. children living in poverty today than during the outbreak of the Great Recession in 2008, and the so-called economic recovery has bypassed children of color altogether, reveals the 2015 Data Book, released Tuesday by the Baltimore-based Annie E. Casey Foundation. This report evaluates information from numerous federal agencies from 2008 to 2013 to determine child well-being nationwide.

 



Child Poverty Rate Climbs by One-Third

One in four rural residents under the age of 18 lives in poverty, according to a new study from the USDA Economic Research Service. The figure is even higher in counties that depend on manufacturing jobs, which eroded during the Great Recession.

The Global Commission on the Economy and Climate recently launched Seizing the Global Opportunity: Partnerships for Better Growth and a Better Climate, which outlines strategies to achieve growth and climate action together.




Climate Change Seen as Top Global Threat

In advance of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris this December, many publics around the world name global climate change as a top threat, according to a new Pew Research Center survey measuring perceptions of international challenges. This is particularly true in Latin America and Africa, where majorities in most countries say they are very concerned about this issue.





 

 


 

 
President's Corner

 

The International Association for Community Development (IACD) President, Charlie McConnell signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Community Development Society (CDS) President, Dave Lamie, during the annual CDS conference held in Kentucky in July. IACD's next conference is to be a joint conference with CDS in Minnesota, USA in July 2016 with the theme Sustaining Community Change: building local capacity to sustain development initiatives.
