Community Development Program Areas

Local Governance

Through the MSU Local Government Center, we deliver many programs to municipal and county officials, employees and advisory boards:

  • public officials training
  • citizen board workshops
  • code of ethics training
  • public lands revenue education
  • meeting management
  • human resources management
  • local government extension training
In my 31 years of public service, I have used one agency more than any other to help with the issues facing our town. The LGC is completely unmatched in our state by any other agency in their abilities to help local government with multiple and varied issues.

Strategic Planning

We provide guidance and assistance to help communities build capacity and plan for change:

After the training, I am more motivated to follow through on connecting with neighbors to start a neighborhood association, or join if there is an organization I haven’t found out about.

Leadership Development

Community leadership programs are aimed at building individual and group capacity to address complex issues:
  • REAL Montana (Resource Education and Agriculture Leadership) program
  • facilitator training
  • appreciative inquiry
  • conflict management
  • understanding personality dynamics
  • Horizons
  • Rural Community Conference
Knowing how I react in conflicts before and after this program, I am now better able to work with others and understand other members of the team.
